Tango Fantasia Welcome to the other side of Tango. You will be submerged into the magic of passion and the mystery of love that surrounds Tango in a fantasy of wild feelings and desires! The dancer’s captivating intensity will take you on a journey through time and war and far off places that will create the lust for passion and love. In 1928 Carlos Gardel, perhaps the most prominent figure in Tango history visited Paris, France and was captivated by the Parisian style of song, setting the stage for the historical Tango connection between Buenos Aires and Paris. Show Summary: It is the present at daytime in a Parisian park. An older couple sits on a bench, enjoying the sounds of Paris before heading to the wedding of a friend. A group of young people gather in the park and hear the sounds of a Tango Vals by Piaf. It is as though a young sparrow sings to them from above and the young people start to dance a beautiful Tango Vals. The older couple joins them. The older woman, Georgina, breaks always from her husband and is immersed in thought. She is moved back through time to 1982 to a Buenos Aires milonga called “Club Porteño”, a dance hall and bar where Tango and Milonga are danced socially. The men and women dance among themselves, as is the tradition of Tango. Suddenly a solider walks in to give the orders to the men, Argentina is at war!At the port the men and women gather at the troop ship destined for the Malvinas Islands. They move together, in a slow sensual dance…...before they say their good byes! The men are going to war to regain lost lands taken away by imperialist Great Britain. When the men depart the women cry and dance alone as they realize that some may not come home. Meanwhile, the men are at war and at the General’s party at a Brothel. The setting is a dark with very sexy women in loose alluring clothing. The men and women dance together in a provocative manner. In the Malvinas, the men are at war. They dance together in a traditional way that Tango was originally introduced in the “barrios” or neighborhoods and later became a popular dance. As the women gather to hear the news that the war is over, a letter arrives for Georgina. Everyone knows the content before it is opened. Her lover Federico is dead! They all gather at the port to welcome the men home. The women and men dance, as they move together, the rhythm and their passion intensifies and the movements become more fiery and powerful. Georgina is alone and she cries her self to sleep. In her dreams Federico appears to her and she dances her last dance with him. ~Intermission~ It is Sunday in San Telmo, Buenos Aires at the Plaza Dorrego, a very popular area with antique shops, restaurants and outdoor cafes. As is the custom, groups of people gather in the Park to watch street performers dance. Georgina catches the eye of a Milonguero, Antonio. They dance and fall in love through a sultry dance. Her new love seduces her but his wife walks in on them. They dance a dramatic and sensual trio and leave Antonio alone. He is now alone and goes to a Clandestine Casino to gamble and falls into depression and he drinks his sorrows away. The place is in a very seedy “barrio “, and as he looses all his money he realizes he has lost everything! A Tango fight breaks out and Antonio kills a man with a knife! Georgina is distraught about her life but is coaxed by her friends to go to Club Porteño to dance. She is asked to dance by a tourist, a Frenchman. She initially refuses but then his charm wins her over and they dance. They fall in love and a wedding is planned. The night of the wedding is very festive, all the men and women gather in beautiful gowns and tuxedoes in a great hall. The Tango has evolved and merged with other dances, the men and women dance to show their skills and talent and individual styles of Tango for the bride and groom. Georgina dances a romantic tango with her bridegroom .As the light fades and the new dawn rises…. the couple is back in the present time in a Parisian park.
